This
may seem like a poster unrelated to BRE but it actually is tied to a very
pivotal moment in BRE’s history. This is the 2nd Grand Prix race
where BRE ran their Formula 5000 with John Morton at the helm.
After finishing
3rd and on the cool down lap, a freak rainstorm hit the end of the
straight and the car hit a large body of water which caused it to crash. John
says he was told team manager, Pete Brock, was running as fast as he could outside
the track wall toward the car to see if John was okay. John is all he cared
about in that moment.
As John was declared okay and the wrecked car brought
back to the pits, thoughts then turned to the car. Unfortunately Brock had no
more funds left to repair the car and BRE’s Grand Prix days were over.
