"The controversial race still talked about today- the 1971 Championship came down to the last race of the season at Laguna Seca. The Alfa would take the checker after amazingly not having to take a pit stop for fuel during the race. An after race inspection proved the obvious, the Alfa's tank had been designed to hold more than the allowed amount of fuel. A false space between the floor boards attempted to hide its secret. After the crowds had left, the BRE team was crowned the 1971 champions. No victory shots for BRE. There is however this image of the two hottest cars of the season waiting to start what would become one of the most famous races of the Trans-AM series. "
