Land Speed Record attempts occur so seldom that when they do every man who has ever tried to set a new record usually shows up to see if it can be done again. In the fall of '97 when current record holder Richard Noble (far left) brought his new Thrust SSC from the UK for Andy Green (right of center) to drive, he was met on the edge of the Blackrock Desert, in the tiny town of Gerlach, Nevada, by Craig Breedlove (left of center) and Art Arfons (far right) the only other men who had set verified two way records over 600mph for the full mile, as required by the FIA rules.
